The 2025 Housing Need Survey, completed by large numbers of parishioners was coordinated by Cambridgeshire Acre on behalf of the Parish Council and the Neighbourhood Plan group. It is very comprehensive and indicates that to meet the needs of Horseheath residents and associates we need to build 9 one or two bedroom houses. The report contains much information and you can read it here – Horseheath Housing Needs Report – 2025 (002)
Of course the major problem is finding land upon which to build. The Parish Council, working with Acre, has approached all landowners and considered all the possible sites in the village that might be suitable for such a development. A problem is that affordable housing built on rural exception sites does not provide the same financial return to land owners as open market housing. So to date we have not been able to find land that would allow us to provide the housing that our parishioners need. We are exploring the possibility of working with a neighbouring Parish, but this is a radical idea in planning terms. The Parish Council will keep trying to do all it can to support our local residents.
