You will probably have heard about Downing Renewables proposal for a massive new solar farm east of the A11 to the north of West Wratting and Balsham. This proposal would produce acres of solar panels in the largest solar farm in Europe. The Kingsway proposal is so large it would be dealt with as a national infrastructure project. But there are potential issues; the impact on wildlife and our countryside would be radical. Added to which there is no indication that the proposal will be able to erect new power lines to connect to the grid at Burwell.

Downing renewables have a website at https://kingswaysolarfarm.co.uk/

There is a local campaign group which discusses local concerns with the project – Home – Kingsway Solar Community Action

Do get involved and make up your mind – the more residents who express an opinion the more likely it is we will achieve the best outcome for South Cambridgeshire.  There was previous consultation to which the Parish Council submitted a response – you can read it here – Comments on Kingsway proposal 1025

The planning application has now been submitted to the Planning Inspectorate – you can see the latest informaion here – Kingsway Solar Farm – Project information

The Planning Inspectorate will decide if they can accept this application by the 18th June; assuming they do accept it the next step will be the opportunity for the public to make comments. You will need to register as an interested party to provide comments – there is more information on the website.
